Spray patterns are process parameters, not housekeeping.

What the release agent actually does

Beyond releasing, the spray cools the die surface and can carry heat away unevenly if applied inconsistently. Over-application leaves residue that vents and metal see first; under-application invites soldering to the steel.

Concentration and blow-off are as important as volume — more agent is not more protection.

Making it a controlled parameter

Document dilution ratio, spray time, nozzle positions and blow-off settings like any other process window. Verify coverage visually at the die at maintenance intervals, not only when defects appear.

When surface defects cluster, review the spray recipe before blaming the alloy or the machine.

FAQ

Why do defects follow the spray pattern?

Because the agent shapes local die temperature and surface condition — the casting records what the spray did.

Can water-based agents corrode the die?

Properly specified and applied agents are part of standard practice; problems usually trace to concentration drift or trapped moisture.

Is robotic spraying worth it?

It mainly buys repeatability — the same coverage every cycle — which is exactly what release application needs.
